"Peter Siedlaczek first made his mark with some fine string-orchestra samples which found their way (uncredited) into the Roland sound library. To this day, people tell me they still prefer these strings to any of the huge orchestral libraries released since! The Polish maestro's new 17.5GB String Essentials brings us a string orchestra of violins, violas, cellos and double basses. The sections are presented separately and also blended together
into full string sections, something Mr Siedlaczek does extremely well — the mapping is done so skilfully that it's almost impossible to hear any joins.

The samples were recorded in a Warsaw studio from three microphone positions, not (according to the producer) to vary the amount of ambience, but to exploit the different tone produced by close, medium, and far mic placements. This calls into question the pleasant, brightish, one-second release tails heard on the end of the so-called 'ambient' samples. Once the release trails are turned off, the difference between the three mikings is pretty subtle; the most obvious difference being that the 'normal' position has a slightly lusher sound and wider stereo image than the 'dry' samples.

String Essentials' programs gather together a collection of playing styles which users can select via keyswitches. Each string section plays sustains, mono legato, tremolo and trills (all looped), three lengths of short note, staccato, pizzicato, and fast runs. The mono legato mode is OK for slow melodies, and its optional portamento effect introduces some tasty Bollywood-ish upward slides, but the legato effect can't cope with fast runs. Pitch wheel-driven glissandos (available for all sections) are difficult to control, but capable of yielding some thoroughly mad slides. In the staccatos program, push the mod wheel all the way up and you get an invigorating, disco-style fast 'fall' at the end of the note.

All four sections perform fast runs in a major scale which is chromatically shifted to fit all keys, and the violins have an extra set of 140bpm, key-specific major runs. You can use the Kontakt instrument's tempo control to change the speed (but not pitch) of the runs. Users get a huge amount of control over the samples: the Kontakt instrument's knobs control expression, crescendos, attack, and release tails level, and MIDI Continuous Controller number 24 can be used to introduce a layer of staccato samples — very handy for adding definition to fast lines.

These strings sound consistently good — each section has a distinct character, and the blend of the four is very satisfying. The Polish musicians play with an expressive, controlled vibrato, excellent tuning, and some feeling. Although some might find the wealth of technical detail intimidating, experienced samplists will be pleased to find such a large fund of high-quality, musically intelligent string performances in one ready-to-play package."

ACOUSTIC BASS
The highly detailed Acoustic Upright Bass is one of the highlights of this instrument. Because of Trilogy's unique interface, you can get a wide variety of gorgeous tones from this Bass. This is made possible because the interface has separate control of the Neumann™ U-47 Tube Microphone signal and the Direct Pickup signal, which was sampled through a vintage Neve™ 1083 Console. This stunning sounding acoustic is chromatically sampled, with multi-dynamic velocity switching. The hardest velocity in every Bass patch in Trilogy brings in real bass glisses, similar in concept to the idea Spectrasonics pioneered on the Hans Zimmer Guitar libraries. An acoustic Martin™ Dreadnought Bass Guitar is also available in the Acoustic section -perfect for those "unplugged" sessions!

Trilogy's innovative True Staccato™ technique lets you play repeated notes on the Acoustic and Electric basses in real-time with a whole new level of realistic phrasing, and finally allows for repeated notes that sound completely natural like a bass player, and not like the dreaded "machine gun" sampler effect!

ELECTRIC BASS
The huge selection of Electric Basses are from all new, painstakingly recorded sessions, and features classic 4, 5 and 6 string models, performed in Fingered, Picked, Muted, Rock & Roll, Slapping, Ballad, Fretless and R&B techniques through rare, custom-made tube preamps. Special variations are presented including Harmonics, Glisses, Fuzz, Trills, FX and thousands of Slides! Both Modern and Vintage "Old School" Electrics are available, providing a wide array of tones for different musical settings. All the patches are mapped the same way, so that one sequence will work with any bass you select.

There are thousands of samples used in these instruments, mapped with multiple dynamics for amazing expression. You don't have to "assemble" Bass parts with Trilogy, it's extremely playable as a highly expressive real-time instrument too!

To complete the picture, every Acoustic and Electric Bass in Trilogy has a special "Finger Noise" release layer with release triggering, that gives these basses amazing realism -perfectly simulating the fretboard response of the real bass. When a note is released, the Finger Noise layer triggers an appropriate noise sample from among hundreds of tiny fret noises, subtle string scrapes, squeeks, x-notes, taps and mutes, which add a user controllable "human" imperfection element to your performance. You can also easily control how much of this effect you want, since the noise effect is on its own layer that can be controlled from the Trilogy Mixer.

Powerfull Synthesizer for Pads, Textures, Soundscapes & Athmospherics
This software synthetizer for Windows offers a wide range of sounds, combinations and rhythmical
sequences. It can be used in different styles of music, from Disco, Rock to NewAge and Film Music. You can easily create your own patches with basic sounds, patches with advanced atmospheric textures and even by using sounds from external SF2 banks, you also can create dynamic sequences by using an extensive possibilities of the modulation section. It is not complex in terms of nested modulation-routing but provides some unconventional routing like modulating the amount of a LFO by another one for more vivid textures.

This synthesizer has been developed by H. G. Fortune and Artvera.
